Bonhomie between Mulayam Singh Yadav and Kalyan Singh
Yesterday’s demon has turned into today’s angel. Is it a paradox of democracy or body politic in India. Kalyan Singh was the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh state when Babri Mosque was demolished. The incident became a milestone in always strained relations between Hindus and Muslims. Even the supreme court of India punished Kalyan Singh for this political audacity. Now the same gentleman has accepted the responsibility for that action and is preaching Hindu-Muslim amity. He has joined hands with Mulayam Singh Yadav. Perhaps political expediency dictated Kalyan Singh’s latest move. Yadav too willingly embarrassed his one time political foe.

Political leaders may think that the public memory is a short-lived phenomenon. But in the case of Kalyan Singh, many remember the day when Kalyan Singh, the then Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh was sentenced till rising the court by the Supreme Court of India for contempt of court case. Kalyan Singh had given an assurance to the court on an affidavit that he would use the state machinery to prevent any damage to the Babri Masjid but failed. The same evening, addressing a public meeting on the lawns of the Constitution Club of N. Delhi, Kalyan Singh, riding on the crest of Hindutava, said he had the divine message of Lord Rama to demolish the Babri Masjid. ”Under such circumstances, I preferred to be accused of contempt of court instead of contempt of the orders of the Ramlala (Child Rama).”
