Sadly, Mumbai, the business capital of India has become the bomb blast capital of India. Bomb blasts rocked Mumbai in 1993 for the first time in the wake of increase in the terrorist activities in India. Then again 2006 bomb blasts in local trains, leaving more than 150 persons dead, shocked the government. In 1993, the Home Minister of India was S.B. Chavan from Mharashtra. In 2006, it was Shivraj Patl from Maharashtra again who adorned the coveted post of the home minister of India. And even in 2008 Patil, notwithstanding political attacks on his failure as minister, continues to be the Indian Home Minister.

The latest terrorist attack on the commercial centre Mumbai seems to be targeted at foreighners. The more coordinated attacks on seven places including three top star hotels, The Taj, The Oberao and Trident have been made. Little wonder, the Government of India immediately despatcged 200 NSG commandoes and plunged the army and navy into operation against terrorists who have taken guests, mostly foreigners as hostages. It is something alarming. No terrorist group has taken the responsibility for the attacks.
