Indian Premier League (IPL) has done a great favor to all the postmodernists or pomos. It has succeeded in their hitherto failed attempt to tell the world about the artificial meanings attached with everything, including sports like Cricket.
Cricket which is popularly known as gentleman’s game, has nothing gentle about it; and how could it have when your game is about sweating in the sun for whole day. The pomos even tried to tell the world that the thinking about this game: it develops the felling of team-building, or ‘sportsmanship’, or makes a person more patriotic about the team he is playing for, or maybe fighting for, is bullshit, but nobody believed them. Now when the richest cricket board on the face of earth, BCCI, has done the same people have been left with no more excuses to hide from the ‘truth’.
WHAT IPL HAS DONE
The IPL has told the world that cricket is nothing but a source of entertainment and all the thinking that it is about talent and genius is nothing but pure creation of imagination. Of course you need to have intellect to understand how people can be fooled; but that is not same as knowing how to drive a hundred mile per hour traveling ball.
The IPL has told the world that cricket has nothing to do with nation or patriotism. This may be most difficult for Indians and Pakistanis followers who have always seen their World Cup matches nothing short of war. By making clubs named on various cities of India they have told the viewers that ‘patriotism’ can be bought and sold like any commodity. Maybe it is only a commodity; something like intangible goods. And of course being a resident of that city is never a requisite for membership. By even having Pakistani players in Indian-city named clubs they have told Indians and Pakistanis that all their attachment with their national teams was vacuous.
The IPL has told the world that even when viewers are there for cricket, there are not there for cricket. They are there to just spend time, to get “entertainment”. So sorry to all the pundits of game who think viewer is interested in the “cricket”. They are there because of the “star power”, to get a feeling that they spent their time while having “fun”.
IPL by bringing cheerleaders further told that for being leaders in cheering you don’t even need to know the names of players of the team or even the game you are cheering about. It is only about money and the meaning sold for it. For viewers more “entertainment”; especially if you are from sex-starved South-East-Asian civilization.
The owners of clubs need not have attachment with it and like the stunt-performers are only interested in their profit. The world always knew that players benefit monetarily from their following of the game but before IPL they never knew that the games are only for that.
IPL has further clarified that there is no difference between humans and cows (PETA and BJP people are you listening?). Of course cows will keep on doing much more independently.
But some people being more smart know that once the ‘truth’ will come out it will no more remain to be ‘truth’. They are trying their best by ascertaining that T-20 is totally entertainment and Test cricket is totally “cricket”; but maybe they also know that the game can’t be kept alive for always so better if it is cashed as early and as much as possible.
